Fall Fun at Historic Weston Orchard

The Pumpkin Patch Near Kansas City

Ride the hayrack out to the field and pick your pumpkin straight off the vine, not from a pre-picked pile in a parking lot. Fifty acres in Weston, Missouri, about thirty-five minutes north of downtown Kansas City.

Pick From the Vine, Not From a Pile

Most pumpkin patches around Kansas City truck their pumpkins in. Ours grow here. This is real pumpkin picking, the way it’s supposed to work. You ride the hayrack out to the field, walk the rows, and cut the one you want, whether you’re looking for the perfect carving pumpkin, a haul of fall decorations, or the biggest one you can get your arms around.

Pumpkins are priced by weight on the way out, honestly, so a little one costs a little and a monster costs like a monster. Wagons are welcome and the paths are stroller-friendly, if a bit bumpy.

Why families drive out

A Best-of-KC Fall Day, Without the Crowds

Rated 4.6 stars across 421 Google reviews, this is the patch Kansas City families tell their friends about, then keep a little quiet so it stays this way. The big-name patches pack them in shoulder to shoulder; out here your kids get the corn maze, the bounce pillow, the petting zoo, and room to run.

And only here: u-pick apples and pumpkins on the same ticket. No other patch in the metro grows both.

Pumpkin Patch Tips

As you wander the patch for the perfect pumpkin, a few things that make the day easier.

1

Choose Wisely, Pick Carefully

Take your time in the rows. When you find the one, cradle it from the bottom rather than lifting by the stem, stems snap, and once it’s picked, it’s yours.

2

Dress for the Patch

The field and farm paths are natural and uneven, so closed-toed shoes make the whole day better, especially in the corn maze and play zones.

3

Capture the Moment

Photo spots are everywhere out here. Snap away and tag us, just leave room for the family lining up behind you.

4

Come Hungry

The bakery runs cider donuts all day and the smoker’s going on fall weekends. Picking works up an appetite. Plan for it.

Feast on Fall Favorites

No patch day is complete without the flavors that go with it. The Bakery & Market runs pumpkin pies, apple cider donuts, cinnamon rolls and caramel apples, made with fruit grown on this farm.

Then the Cider Barn: hot spiced cider or an apple slushie for the kids, a glass of hard cider or seasonal wine for the grown-ups, with the fall color doing what it does around you.

Pumpkin Patch Questions

The patch runs daily through October, 9am to 5pm, with hayrack rides out to the field on weekends. Apples are picking at the same time, so one admission covers both.

Yes — pumpkins grow in our field and you cut them from the vine. Pre-picked pumpkins are also available near the market if you’re short on time.

Pumpkins are priced by weight after you pick, on top of admission. Little ones cost a little; the giants cost like giants.

About 35 minutes north of downtown Kansas City up I-29 — and 30 minutes from Leavenworth, 15 from Platte City, 40 from St. Joseph.

Our biggest weekend of the year, held the last weekend of September — live music, hayrack rides running all day, the bakery in full swing, and the candy cannon at 1pm both days. Regular fall admission covers it.

Two acres of it, cut fresh every fall, included with admission. The zinnia garden sits next door for a calmer detour.

Closed-toed shoes. The field and farm paths are natural and uneven, and the corn maze is real dirt. Dress for a farm, because that’s what this is.
