The honest pitch
The Fall Saturday Drive From Lawrence
Lawrence has farms closer than us. We know. What you get for the drive is a real orchard: 17,000 trees across eleven varieties, a bag at the gate, rows that run on a while, and a Cider Barn pouring estate wine and hard cider when you come out of them. It is the kind of day you plan once a fall and then plan again next year.
Everything else on the farm comes with the same ticket. No tokens, no wristbands, no upsell at every corner.
Apple picking, eleven varieties
Off the Branch, Not Off a Truck
Apple picking runs mid-August through October 31, ripening in waves. Gala first, then Jonathan and Early Fuji through September, then Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Ida Red and Evercrisp to close the season. We hand you a bag, you walk the rows and pick what looks good, and it gets weighed on the way out.
The bakery fries apple cider donuts from cider pressed off these same trees. Get a half dozen and eat the first one in the parking lot like everybody does.
Mid-September through October
Pumpkins the Same Afternoon
From mid-September the hayrack runs out to the patch on weekends and you pick from the vine, not from a pile. Carving pumpkins, pie pumpkins, gourds, priced by weight after you pick.
Pair it with the two-acre corn maze next door while the zinnias are still going, and catch the candy cannon at 1pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Plenty of Lawrence families make it a two-stop day: apple picking in the morning, pumpkins after lunch.
