The one everybody asks for. Explosively crisp, sweet-tart, and gone the fastest every year, come early in the window.
Jonathan

The late-season beauty, blushed, crisp and sweet-tart, ripening right as the pumpkin patch opens. One ticket covers both.

The Rows Go On a While
Fifty acres up on the bluffs above the Missouri River, long rows, changing color, and the sweet smell of ripe apples from August until the time change. Bring a camera. Everyone does.

Apple Cider Donuts, Made With These Apples
The bakery presses cider from the same trees you're picking and fries donuts through the day, warm, cinnamon-sugared, and best eaten within sight of the rows they came from. Grab a cider slushie or a hot spiced cider to go with.

Apple Picking Tips
Four things that make a picking day go right.

Pick Gently
Twist and lift, don't yank. The branch keeps producing, the apple keeps its stem, and next year's crop says thanks.

Bring the Right Gear
Closed-toed shoes for the rows, layers for the morning chill, and sunscreen if you're staying a while. Wagons welcome.

Stay on the Marked Rows
The open rows are the ripe ones. Staying on them protects the trees, and means you're picking apples that are actually ready.

Weigh Out on the Way Home
Your bag gets weighed at the market and you pay by the pound, so pick what you'll use, and maybe a few extra for sauce.

Most orchards around Kansas City close a day or two a week. We don't. Every day, 9am to 5pm, August through November, so a Tuesday after school works as well as a Saturday.

An Easy Drive From Anywhere in the Metro
Straight up I-29, exit at Platte City, and follow the bluffs into Weston. The drive turns pretty right when the apples do.

Apple Picking Questions
When is apple picking season?
August through November, open every day 9am to 5pm. Varieties ripen in waves, Gala and Honeycrisp lead in August, Granny Smith and Pink Lady close it out in October, and picking runs until the season ends in November.
How much does apple picking cost?
Fall admission is $9 on weekdays and $15 on weekends (ages 2 and up), which covers parking, every play zone, the hayrack ride and your picking bag. The apples you pick are weighed and priced by the pound on the way out.

How far is the orchard from Kansas City?
About 35 minutes north of downtown Kansas City on I-29, 30 minutes from Leavenworth and Atchison, 15 from Platte City, 40 from St. Joseph.
Are you open on Mondays?
Yes, every day of the season, 9am to 5pm, including Mondays and Sunday mornings, which most orchards in the area can't say.
Can I buy apples without picking?
Yes. The Bakery & Market sells picked apples by the bag, along with pies, cider donuts, jams and caramel apples, and the Cider Barn pours hard cider and wine made from the same trees.
