Apples
Historic Weston Orchard & Vineyard is one of Kansas City's largest apple orchards, home to 13 varieties of apples. From sweet to tart, you'll find apples perfect for everything from snacking to canning. Come on out for some apple picking! Our apple season starts at the end of August and goes into the beginning of November.
Gala
Available early September
A sweet and juicy apple that is small and fragrant. It is red with yellow undertones. Great for eating and making applesauce.
Honeycrisp
Available early September
A sweet and juicy apple that has a crispness to it. The flavor is similar to McIntosh. It is mottled red over a yellow background.
Jonagold
Available September – early October
This apple has a honey-tart taste to it. It is a juicy apple with a fine texture. It is a mix between the Jonathan and Golden delicious apple giving it a red over yellow background and is large in size. These are great for eating and cooking.
Red Delicious
Available mid-September – early October
This apple is milder in flavor with a sweetness to it and a more coarse texture. It has a touch skin and is large in size. They are great for fresh eating, try one on your next salad.
Empire
Available mid-September – early October
A tart and crunchy apple that is a mix between a McIntosh and Red Delicious. It is medium in size. A great apple for eating and baking.
Granny Smith
Available October
This tart and crisp apple is green in color. It is perfect for making pies and eating.
Rome Beauty
Available late October
This apple is mild in flavor and has a firmness about it. They are large in size with a red-yellow color to them and a long shelf life. Another great baking apple.
Jonathan
Available early September - October
A tart and crisp apple that is medium in size and thin skinned. It is slightly striped in skin color or can have a red color with yellow background. It is great for eating and baking with.
Fuji
Available September
Another sweet and crisp apple that is large and juicy. It has a fine texture to it and a long shelf life. It is red and yellow striped in color. A popular apple for eating fresh but also good for baking as they hold their shape well.
Ida Red
Available mid-September – mid-October
A slightly tart and juicy apple that is medium in size. It is a mix between Jonathan and Wagener apples giving it a red with green coloring. It has a long shelf life and is great for eating and baking.
Golden Delicious
Available mid-September – early October
This is a sweet and delicate apple with a honey flavor to it that is juicy. It is yellow in color and great for eating and making sauces.
Evercrisp
Available October
This sweet apple is both juicy and crunchy. It is a mix between a Honeycrisp and a Fuji. It is red over cream in color, has a long shelf life and is great for eating.
Pink Lady
Available late October
A crisp and tangy-sweet firm apple that can vary from pink to red in color. It is a mix of Golden Delicious and Lad Williams apples. They are great for eating, baking, and work wonderfully in applesauce or pureed soups.
